Newsletter - Issue 4, Spring 2007

Warming spring sun marks the start of this season as golf courses, tramping trails and gardens defrost and wonderful blooms appear. In spring, skiing is often at its best, beaches fill with relaxing sun-seekers and dining al fresco is the order of the day. Pleasant daytime temperatures range from 8-22°C (48–75°F).

Milford Sound, full day tour
Milford Sound ranks number 1 on the Automobile Association’s famous ‘Kiwi Must-Do Experiences’ list.

An equally popular choice with international visitors, a Milford Sound tour is undisputedly one of the top scenic drives in the world. Our driver guides take clients to Milford Sound in the comfort of their own private transport, for a cost comparative to the common coach-cruise-coach option, but with infinitely more flexibility.

Driver guide profile… Blake McDowall

Blake first got behind the wheel earlier than most, when he drove his driving-averse mother from Invercargill to Queenstown.

A retired Southland farmer, he’s been coming to the Queenstown area since 1948. Blake has been a local landowner since 1972 and a permanent resident for the past 6½ years.

Blake fondly remembers his honeymoon excursion, as his ‘best motoring adventure’. He and Margaret drove the full length of NZ, towing a caravan, taking four weeks to drive from Invercargill to Russell and back!

The West Coast region has more recently become Blake’s favourite place to take LSQ clients. The spectacular waterfalls, swift flowing water through boulder strewn rivers, beautiful rainforest and views from the Gates of Haast, are very memorable and special. ‘The changing West Coast weather adds to the whole experience’, says Blake.

Driver guide profile… Blake McDowall

When not touring throughout the South Island, in his S class Mercedes sedan, Blake manages to find time to cruise the beautiful Southern Lakes region in his fully restored 1955 Ford Zephyr Mark 1.

Blake is feeling refreshed and rejuvenated for the coming summer season, after nearly two months rest and relaxation on Australia’s Sunshine Coast.

Take note…
